1964 to 1969
The photographs on this page cover the first era of Crossroads, which was broadcast in black and white by ATV on the ITV network. Many photographs were taken (as many books and television magazines of the time show) however today much has been 'lost' (up until 2005 the archive was complete and had been well cared for by ATV and Central until that point). Some storylines are well represented, others less so.
Here we have photographs of the original october press launch, stills (taken from a TV documentary in 1985) of the first episode in 1964, Meg's dangerous driving and jail scene afterwards, the holidays in Spain and Tunisia (Sandy's Paris photos currently are missing) Diane's assualt by her landlord, Hugh Mortimer arriving at the Crossroads Motel, the first Crossroads wedding, the first Crossroads on-screen death, the weddings of Marilyn Gates to Peter Hope, Brian Jarvis to Janice Gifford and Ralph Palmer to Christine Fuller.
There is also the first anniversary and 5th anniversary cast photographs, Carlos, Gerald and Bernard the early chefs and many of the stars of the 1960s era including guest appearances from Bob Monkhouse, Ken Dodd and Joe Loss.
Images in this section are courtesy of ITV Archive, TV Times Magazine (scans) and Crossroads Appreciation Society Archive. If you have better copies or any other missing 1960s images you can contact us here. ITV Archive has previously carried out a search for the stills 'lost' in 2005 and most can be seen here.
